Shaping the future of the UK energy sector

Shaping the future of the UK energy sector

We are the INA (Independent Networks Association).

We are the voice of the UK’s independent utility networks – created to drive industry collaboration and influence policy that will shape the future of the UK’s energy agenda.

Representing the UK’s Independent Network Owners

We bring together, and are proud to represent, the UK’s Independent Network Operators and work to increase awareness of the significant, but often unknown, vital role that our members play in heating and energising the UK.

Our members have delivered significant improvements in competition, choice and service for customers in the utility market and, together, own and operate utility infrastructure and networks that provide energy, heat and power to approximately 3 million households and thousands of businesses right across the UK.

Leading cross industry collaboration

Before the INA, Independent Gas Transporters (IGTs) and Independent Distribution Network Operators (IDNOs) were represented separately but now, for the first time, the INA provides a single platform for Independent Network collaboration.

The INA consists of the leading minds and voices of the UK’s Independent Network Operators, who have decades of expertise, and work in collaboration to identify, influence and deliver innovation and ongoing improvements for all our industry stakeholders.

Enabling the UK to build back faster and greener

The COVID-19 pandemic of 2020 has resulted in a significant slowdown in economic activity and there is a clear need to support the UK achieve a faster and greener recovery.

The INA and our members recognise the important role we will play in driving and supporting the rapid and innovative progress needed to deliver a reliable recovery.

In order to make clear the role we play, the INA has commissioned Tony Hockley, PhD at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) to produce a report detailing the ways in which INA members will support the UK through its recovery and beyond.
